Sep 16, 2010  2002 Jetta 1.8t manual. Will not go into reverse. Drops down into position but moves forward. I will try some of the fixes listed below such as placing the car in neutral with the clutch up then shifting to reverse. Turning car off shift into reverse and start. Let car roll back in neutral and then shift into reverse. SOURCE: 1995 Toyota Corolla Door Handle My husband (who is a weight lifter) managed to bust our door handles three times during the hot summer months. It was about $35 for the not so fancy handles and installation, I think over $50 for someone to do the fancy painted handle (driver's side door).

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving approximately 20 mph when he encountered a set of railroad tracks. After driving twenty feet over the tracks, the vehicle would no longer shift into any selected gear and failed to respond to the contacts attempts to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to the dealer and repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla 4

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla that is part of the accelerator pedal reinforcement bar recall/installation. I have noticed another problem that appears to also involve the accelerator. This vehicle has a 5 speed manual transmission. The problem occurs in both 3rd and 4th gear. This problem is not consistent meaning it is not always noticed every time I drive, I would maintain that it occurs at least 50% of the time however. Problem: I attempt to maintain a constant speed for instance in 3rd gear at 30 mph, the vehicle feels as if it wants to speed up, I then remove some pressure from the accelerator, the vehicle then slow by jerking, I then attempt to accelerate and the vehicle jerks again, bottom line is I can not maintain a constant speed. The road conditions do not matter, flat, hill, bumpy, smooth, wet dry, 30 mph, 31 mph, 32, mph etc. I cannot maintain a constant speed in 3rd and 4th gear. I am not sure of an approximate date, it has happened numerous times since I purchased the vehicle in August of 2009. I will just enter a random date below.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla 7

I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla s 5-speed with 91,000 miles on it. While driving the other day, the transmission locked up on the interstate. I had never had a problem with the car and have maintained it well since I purchased it. I had the car towed to the local Toyota dealership and was told the clutch was bad and they gave me an estimate of $1,036 to repair it. After speaking to another mechanic and finding out that the dealership wanted $400 more than average to do the service I had the car towed to my local mechanic. After removing the transmission from the car he informed me that the clutch was fine and the transmission was bad. I bought a Toyota for its supposed reliability. . . . . . What a joke. This is going to cost thousands to repair and has effectively ruined my summer vacation plans. I know there are similar complaints concerning this transmission. . . . . I hope something gets done about it. -bryan shepler.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2001 Toyota Corolla 8

Unsafe rebuilt transmission, 2001 Toyota Corollawe purchased the vehicle on 7/29/2008. In January 2009, the engine dumped oil and burned out, and had to be replaced. About two days later the transmission fell apart. Our mechanic discovered that it was from a salvage yard and was being held together with epoxy. The transmission mount was bent, indicating to the mechanic that the car might have been in some kind of accident. Also I believe the mechanism for the bolt to go through (to hold the transmission in place) was missing along with the bolt. All information about the problems with the car should be verified with harry, owner of import auto, at 2583 university Ave, madison, WI 53705; phone 608-231-1221. He has been keeping the transmission for inspection by interested authorities. Harry called the transmission a 'fraud. ' it should have never been installed like that. The transmission was unsafe. I allow my grandson to drive this car. He is a student, age 19. He has a part-time job with pizza hut, delivering pizzas. He is also in a band. Two days before the transmission went out, he wanted to drive the car a long distance for a gig. I told him to take my other car. If he had taken the Corolla, the transmission could have come apart at high speed on freeway in the dead of winter. He and others could have been killed. My mechanic ordered another rebuilt transmission, but it too had similar problems. He is flabbergasted that these transmissions are being sold, and he told us he had never seen this before in his 40-year career. We opted to install a new transmission. Bottom line: bad, unsafe transmissions are being sold and unscrupulous mechanics or car owners are installing them. We have photos and more information.

Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla 11

Summer 2007, with about 65,000 miles on my 2004 Toyota Corolla s (bought new), I started to notice an unusual sound when I shifted gears--sounded a little like a diesel engine sound but very faint. Sound slowly become more pronounced, until it became a worry. It happened when I used the clutch (it's a manual). I brought it to the dealer to have them listen to it. They didn't hear it, but recommended that I leave it for service. I did. Dealer said they found no problem. Also said they rarely work on manual transmissions any more. Concerned about potential safety issues, I brought it to a local mechanic personally known to me. He immediately identified it as a transmission bearing problem. Thought it was possibly the pilot bearing. He recommend I take it to a transmission place for a listen. The transmission shop came to the same conclusion as the local mechanic. I reported back to my mechanic who called the dealership to check whether there were any service bulletins about transmission bearing problems and they said there weren't. I contacted the dealer to report the findings of the transmission shop and they said that they didn't think there was a problem. I returned to the transmission shop to have the transmission work done and he replaced the bearings. No more unusual sound when I shift. I still have the old part, which shows wear on one of the bearings. The dealer was not helpful in resolving the problem. The manufacturer was even less helpful. The repair was very expensive, about ~1600 (I also decided to replace the clutch while we were in there).

My daughter was driving her 2004 Toyota Corolla from san diego to dallas. About 60 miles east of yuma, az the manual transmission went out in this car. Had to have it towed back to yuma and a whole new transmission replaced because the transmission had ground itself to pieces and there were pieces of this in the transmission pan. We had to pay $3000 for a new transmission. We do not believe a 3 year old Toyota with a manual transmission should go out at 75,000 miles.

Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2013 Toyota Corolla 1

Car does not engage in gear when first started and placed in drive or reverse. It remains in neutral (even though the shift lever is in drive or reverse position), then gradually slides into gear. This is dangerous when trying to merge with traffic from curbside, parked position. The car does not go when accelerator is depressed. It is hard to time when the transmission will engage and the car will go. You might get lucky and enter the stream of traffic safely or get hit because the car does not accelerate as expected. Dealer cannot duplicate problem but each time I get it back it does it again.

Transmission Not Go Into Gear problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla 3

I purchased this car used in 2006 with 76,000 mostly highway miles on it. I trusted the reputation of Toyota and thought I got a good deal on a dependable car that would last me until at least 200,000 miles with regular maintenance. This car currently has 126,000 miles on it. Last Friday, after getting off the highway, I noticed the gears/transmission running a little louder than usual. During the next 7 residential miles home, the gears/transmission continued to sound louder and more grinding in nature. By the time I arrived home, the car would not go into reverse. I took it to the dealership the next morning and learned that the transmission had failed and I would need a new one. After a little online research, I read that more than a few people had replaced with rebuilt transmissions only to have the rebuilt one fail. I chose to purchase a new transmission (at least it's under warranty for 3 years/36,000 miles) along with a new clutch and other accessories to the tune of $3,500. When I asked how my dependable little Toyota could possibly have a transmission failure, the service man told me something about the clutch beginning to show some wear, causing some parts (bearings?) to get into the transmission and wreak havoc. All I know is that I no longer associate Toyota with dependability.
